Atik Ullah murder case verdict today

A Dhaka court today (December 2) will deliver its judgement in a case lodged over the murder and burning of the body of valiant freedom fighter and Keraniganj Awami League leader Atik Ullah Chowdhury.

Judge Abu Jafar Md Kamruzzaman of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 will hand down the verdict.

According to case details, Atik, a leader of local Awami League unit and former chairman of Konda union under Keraniganj upazila, went missing on December 10, 2013.

His partially burnt body was recovered from beside a hospital in Doleswar area in Keraniganj, the next day.

Killers after murdering Atik had set his body on fire to hide his identity. But from the documents and Bank ATM card found just beside the body, he was identified by his family.

His son Saidur Rahman Faruk Chowdhury filed the murder case at South Keraniganj police station and police later filed charge sheet against eight people.

The court on July 2, 2015, framed charges against the eight — Gulzar Hossain, Shampa, Ashik, Shihab Ahmed, Ahsanul Kabir Emon, Tajul Islam, Jahangir Khan, and Rafikul Islam.

Of them, only Shampa, Jahangir and Rafikul Islam are behind bars.
