Women leader Ayesha Khanam dies

President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Ayesha Khanam has passed away.

She fell sick early Saturday, and she was taken to BRB Hospital in the city where duty doctors declared her dead.

Confirming the news, General Secretary of Mahila Parishad Maleka Banu said she was suffering illness for a long time.

The heroic freedom fighter Ayesha was an active organiser in the student movement of 1962, the mass uprising in 1969, and fought in the great liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971.

After the independence of Bangladesh, Ayesha Khanam dedicated herself to work for the rights of deprived, oppressed, and disenfranchised women of the country.

She will be buried at her family graveyard in Netrakona district.

She was born on october 18, 1947 in Netrakona district.
