Senior secretary of Election Commission (EC) Md Alamgir claimed that voting was held in 60 municipalities across the country on Saturday (January 16). Everywhere the voting was held in fair manner, except two centres.

He said this while briefing media at Nirbachon Bhabon in the capital’s Agargaon on Saturday (January 16).

He said, “The overall election situation was very good. You have shown on media that the turnout was good. Voters have been voting in an orderly manner since the morning.”

EC secretary said, “Some miscreants suddenly entered a center of Boalmari municipality after 12:00 pm and tried to snatch ballot papers and broke boxes. Since the box was broken, the presiding officer postponed the voting at the center even though they could not pick up the ballot papers. In Kishoreganj, miscreants were snatching ballot boxes. The presiding officer also stopped voting at that center. Apart from these two, voting was held in fair and peaceful manner in all the centers of 60 municipalities.”

He added, “Miscreants remain everywhere. They try to rig the election and make it controversial. Their purpose is to ensure that there is no fair election. We foiled that attempt. We would say that with the cooperation of the Election Commission, the law enforcement agencies and your cooperation, it is possible to be held a very beautiful election.”
