MP Papul jailed for 4 years in Kuwait

A Kuwait court has sentenced Laxmipur-2 independent MP Mohammad Shahid Islam Papul to four years’ jail and fined Tk53 crore in a case related to human trafficking and money laundering.
The criminal court headed by Counselor Abdullah Al-Othman passed the order on Thursday (January 28).
However, the Kuwait embassy in Bangladesh didn’t say anything officially regarding the issue.
Earlier on June 6, Kuwait police arrested the Bangladeshi lawmaker on charge of human trafficking, money laundering and torture on expatriates.
During the interrogation by the Kuwait Criminal Investigation Department, Kazi Papul confessed to bribing Kuwait officials, and his statement has been published by different media outlets.
