Plagiarism: DU demotes three teachers

The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) have demoted three teachers as they were found guilty of plagiarising in their research and Ph.D. works.

The downgraded teachers are- Samia Rahman, associate professor of Mass Communication Journalism Department; Syed Mahfujul Haque Marjan, lecturer of Criminology Department; and Omar Farooque, assistant professor of Islamic History and Culture Department.

The decision was taken in the syndicate meeting held at the university on Thursday (January 28).

Confirming the matter, Dr. Md. Hasanuzzaman, Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology said, of them, Samia Rahman has been demoted to assistant professor while Syed Mahfujul Haque Marjan will remain in the same post for two more years. Besides, the DU authorities demoted Omar Farooque to lecturer and revoked his Ph.D. degree.
