ACC makes 115 recommendations to curb corruption

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in its annual report has made a 115-point recommendation for taking effective steps to check corruption in the government services.

The national anti-graft agency revealed the ‘Annual Report-2019’ in its office on Monday (February 8) where ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmud, ACC Commissioner Dr Mozammel Haque Khan and others attended virtually.

The ACC every year made sector-wise recommendation to check corruption, irregularities and harassment in the government services as per the instructions of existing law.

In its report, the anti-graft body identified 11 areas of corruption in the health sector and prepared a set of 25 recommendations to stop the menace. It also prepared five recommendations for the pharmaceutical industry, five recommendations at road traffic management, two recommendations to check duplicate, adulterated and contraband products, one recommendation each to prevent the aggression of banned polythene and the river grabbing.

Although a recommendation has been made for land registration services, seven weak points have been identified in the sector. Side by side, ten guidelines for digitization and modernization of land registration activities and six guidelines regarding the benefits of its services have been given.

11 sources of corruption have been identified in WASA and 12 recommendations have been made for its remedy. Five recommendations regarding income tax, customs and VAT have been made.

10 sources of corruption have been identified in Bangladesh Railway and 15 recommendations have been made for its remedy.

The ACC in its report made a recommendation to form a specialised committee for the Permanent Civil Service Reform Commission. In addition, eight proposals have been made on why the commission should be formed, seven on the scope of work, seven on the power of the commission, ten on performance, and five on organizational structure.

Besides, it has made nine specific recommendations on miscellaneous issues.
