Erfan Selim gets relief from arms case

Erfan Salim, son of Dhaka-7 lawmaker Haji Salim, has been given relief by a Dhaka court in an arms case.

Judge of Number 1 Special Tribunal KM Imrul Kayes gave the relief after accepting the police report on Thursday.

Additional Public Prosecutor of the court Tapas Kumar Pal confirmed the news.

Inspector (operation) of Chawkbazar Thana Muhammad Delwar Hossain, also investigation officer of the arms case, submitted the probe report, recommending giving him relief from the case.

In their final report, Chawkbazar police said they did not find evidence to prove the charges against Erfan in two cases filed under the narcotics control and arms acts. The IO also appealed to the court to discharge Erfan from the cases.

Erfan was arrested after a case was filed against him on charge of "attacking" Lt Wasif Ahmed Khan of Bangladesh Navy in the Dhaka's Dhanmondi area on October 25 last year.
