Abul Maksud’s burial after his daughter returns home

Prominent columnist, researcher, journalist and writer Syed Abul Maksud will be buried after his daughter, Jihad Maksud, returns home from India.

Syed Abul Maksud’s son Syed Nasif Maksud confirmed the news.

He said time of his father’s namaj-e-janaza and burial will fixed after his sister returns from India.

Syed Abul Maksud breathed his last at the capital’s Square Hospital on Tuesday (February 23) evening. He was 74.

He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Syed Abul Maksud was born on 23 October 1946 in the village of Elachipur in Shibalaya upazila of Manikganj. His father was Syed Abul Mahmud and mother Saleha Begum.

Syed Abul Maksud’s career began in 1964 with journalism in the weekly Nabajug edited by M Anisuzzaman. He joined Bangladesh Barta Sangstha in 1971. On March 2, 2008, he resigned from the editorial department of the news agency.

He was awarded with the Bangla Academy Award in 1995 for his contribution to Bengali literature.
