How Mamunul Haque was arrested

It was learned since earlier that Joint Secretary General of Hefajat-e-Islam Maulana Mamunul Haque had been staying at Jamia Rahmania Madrasa in the capital’s Mohammadpur.

On the basis of that information, a team of local police station and Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested him after conducting a joint drive there. He was then taken to the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP Tejgaon Zone under tight security.

After arrest of Mamunul Haque, DC Harunur Rashid gave an immediate reaction to media. He said, “After being confirmed over his whereabouts, members of law enforcement agencies took position around the madrasa in Mohammadpur around 12:45 pm on Sunday (April 18). Later, he was arrested from a room of the madrasa.”

According to police, Mamunul Haque arrived in the madrasa directly, just after being released from locals at a resort in Sonargaon of Narayanganj where he along with a woman was sieged. He did not go to his own home of Kaderabad Housing in Mohammadpur on that night, rather he went to Jamia Rahmania Arabia madrasa which is adjacent to his home. Since has had been staying there. The madrasa was being monitored by the law enforcement agencies from earlier. Mamunul Haque gave a live speech on Facebook from a room of that madrasa.

According to police officials, there are several cases filed against Mamunul Haque with different police stations in the capital including Paltan and Motijheel.
