Fire breaks out in Sundarbans forest

A fire broke out at Daser Bharani area under Sharankhola Range of Sundarbans East Forest Division on Monday (May 3).

On information, two fire units rushed to the spot and trying to bring the blaze under control.

Abdul Mannan, Station Officer of Sharankhola Range of the Sundarbans East Forest Department said, noticing fire in forest, locals informed fire service department. Community Patrolling Group (CPG) members, villagers and officials of forest department are still trying to douse the fire.

Around two acres of land in the forest is burning. To prevent the fire from spreading in the forest, we started base cutting (canals) around the site, the forest official added.

Md Golam Sarwar, deputy assistant director of Bagerhat fire service and civil defense station, said that a total of 20 fire fighters from Sharankhola and Morelganj Stations are working to douse the fire.
