Shops, shopping malls to remain closed: Owners association

Shops and shopping malls will remain closed due to the extended lockdown although they were supposed to reopen from today, Sunday (May 16) after Eid.

Helal Uddin, president of Shop Owners Association, confirmed this to risingbd.

It is learnt that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given approval to a proposal of extending the ongoing lockdown for another week due to the second wave of coronavirus (Covid-19) and the detection of an Indian variant of coronavirus in the country.

Helal Uddin said, “The government extended the ongoing lockdown until May 16 before Eid. The lockdown has again been extended considering the present situation. Under these circumstances, we are not taking any decision to reopen the shops and shopping malls for the time being.”

He added that they will take the next course of action in line with the decision adopted by the government to stem the spread of coronavirus.
