Rozina was harassed and tortured: National Press Club President

National Press Club President Farida Yasmin said that journalist Rozina Islam was harassed and tortured after confining her in a room in the Secretariat. Torturing her means to torture us.

She made the statement after holding a meeting with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Tuesday (May 18) noon.

National Press Club’s General Secretary Elias Khan was present at the moment.

Farida Yasmin said, “We clearly spoke to Home Ministry that she (Rozina) was harassed in name of searching. We demand justice for this.”

Elias Khan said, “Health Minister said that Rozina was sieged for half an hour that was not true. She was confined for 6 hours.”

Press Club President said, “We talked to Information Minister. He is currently in Chattogram. We also talk to Law Minister.”

She said, “Rozina is our sister. We want no repetition of the incident. We expected her bail today (Tuesday). Minister gave assurance for bail on Thursday.”

Mentionable, Rozina entered Health Ministry of the Secretariat around 3:30 pm on Monday (May 17) for professional duties. She was confined in the room of Health Secretary’s PS Saiful Islam for allegedly removing files and snatched away her mobile phone. At one stage, she fell sick.

Later, Rozina was handed over to Shahbag Police Station around 8:30 pm. Then, she was shown arrested in a case filed under Official Secrets Act in the midnight.

On Tuesday, she was produced before a Dhaka court and sought remand for her. But the court rejected the remand plea and sent her to jail.
