Human chain in protest against rogue attack on taxi driver in NY

A human chain and rally was organised in New York in protest against the attack of Bangladeshi taxi driver Asad Uz Zaman Ripon.

The rally was organized by the Natore District Association of the United States in the Sterling Banglabazar area of the Bronx yesterday afternoon.

The rally urged the administration to take a strict action to stop terrorist activities, including racist attacks. Protesters chanted anti-apartheid slogans with placards.

On the night of May 23, Asad Uz Zaman Ripon, joint general secretary of the Natore District Association, a Bangladeshi taxi driver in the 207 Street and Dictator area of the Bronx, was ambushed by miscreants.

At the rally, chaired by Natore District Committee President Kamruzzaman Babu and General Secretary Mohammad Mostaq Hamid Hiro, Victim Asad Uz Zaman Ripon gave a poignant account of the barbaric attack on him.

Lawyer Moin Chowdhury, councilor candidates Mohammad N Majumder and Mirza Mamunur Rashid, General Secretary of Greater Rajshahi Samiti Mozaffar Hossain, Vice-presidents of the organizing body Shamim Ahmed and Ziaur Rahman Zia, Joint General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Milon and Treasurer Mohammad Mas spoke, among others.

Publicity Secretary Mohammad Yaqub Ali Mithu, Co-Publicity Secretary Obaidur Rahman, Banglabazar Business Association Co-President Mohammad Khalilur Rahman and General Secretary Saidur Rahman Lincoln, Bangladeshi-American National Democratic Society-Bands General Secretary Mohammad. Shamim Mia, General Secretary of American-Bangladeshi Welfare Organization Inc Abul Kalam Pinu, President of Bangla Club USA, Md. Mominul Islam, community activists Nasir Uddin and Nurul Islam Mollah were also present

Speakers called for a fair trial for the attack on Assad uz Zaman Ripon, saying ordinary people in the Bronx community were being subjected to various forms of violence.

President Advocate Kamruzzaman Babu and General Secretary Mohammad Mostaq Hamid Hero thanked everyone for attending the event.
