Hundreds of shanties gutted in Tongi fire

Hundreds of shanties were gutted after a fire broke out at a slum in Tongi area early Saturday.

The fire broke out around 3.00am at a churi factory in Milgate area and soon spread to the adjacent slum, burning down hundreds of shanties.

Senior Station Officer of Tongi Fire Service Iqbal Hossain confirmed the matter on Saturday morning.

On information, eight fire fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control, he added.
