A Dhaka court has imposed a ban on Shamima Nasrin, chairman of Evaly.com and Mohammad Rassel, Managing Director (MD) of the e-commerce platform, from travelling abroad.
Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Senior Special Judge’s Court of Dhaka passed the order on Thursday (July 15).
Court inspector of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Aminul Islam came up with the information on Saturday (July 17).
“The court on July 15 passed the order after Mamunur Rashid Chowdhury, an assistant director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and also the head of the enquiry team, submitted an application seeking a travel ban on them,” the court inspector said.
The judge also directed the ACC to send the order sheet to the Special Branch of police and the Department of Immigration and Passport (DIP) in this regard, he said.
During the investigation, the ACC team came to know that the two were secretly trying to leave the country. If they leave the country, the investigation would be hampered, it added.
The ACC launched an investigation against Evaly following a commerce ministry request for legal action over alleged embezzlement of around Tk 339 crore which Evaly took in advance from customers and owed to merchants.
