Expatriates are staging demonstrations at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital in Dhaka, demanding Covid-19 vaccines.
They have been chanting slogans to get vaccines since Saturday (September 18) morning, blocking roads in front of the hospital. As a result, vehicular movement came to a halt. At one stage, police removed them from the roads.
Five of the demonstrators and police officials held discussions with the hospital director for an hour to know the exact date of getting vaccines. Getting no satisfactory answer, expatriates continued their demonstrations.
Hospital director Dr Md Khalilur Rahman said, “Expatriates are demanding Pfizer and Moderna vaccines as those vaccines are required for flying to Saudi Arabia. But those vaccines are not available at the hospital except Sinopharm vaccines. That’s why they are taking to the streets.”
