DGHS driver Malek jailed for 30 years

A Dhaka court sentenced Abdul Malek, a driver of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to 30 years' rigorous imprisonment for possessing firearms and ammunition at his residence.

Judge Md Robiul Alam of Dhaka Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions judges court pronounced the verdict on Monday (September 20).

Investigation Officer of the case, and Sub-Inspector Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury of RAB-1 submitted the charge-sheet in the case to the court on January 11 this year. Later, on March 11, the court framed charges against Malek in the case.

A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on September 20 last year arrested Malek for his alleged involvement in businesses of illegal arms, fake notes and other illegal activities.

The elite force later recovered a foreign-made pistol, one magazine, five bullets, fake notes of Taka 1.5 lakh, a laptop and a mobile phone from his possession.

RAB-1 Inspector (City and Transport) Alamgir Hossain, later filed two cases against Malek with Turag Police Station under the Arms Act and Special Power Act.
