ACC set to submit charge sheet against former Health DG

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is set to submit charge sheet against former Directorate General (DG) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad.

In addition, the Anti-Corruption Watchdog has also sued Regent Hospital Chairman Md Shahed Hossain and former health director Aminul Hassan, deputy director Md Younus Ali, assistant director Shafiur Rahman and research officer Didarul Islam in the charge sheet which will be submitted to the court soon.

The ACC-approved charge sheet said DGHS’s agreement with Regent Hospital on Covid-19 treatment was illegal. On the basis of that agreement, the chairman of the Regent Hospital Shahed has misappropriated Tk1,37,86,500 by examining samples of the patients infected by coronavirus.

According to the charge sheet, the accused, in collusion with each other, agreed to convert the Regent Hospital into a dedicated Covid Hospital. Besides, samples of 3,939 corona-infected patients were tested in the lab of government institution NIPSOM – National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine and they illegally seized Tk 3,500 crore from them.
