Discrepancy in Union Bank`s vault: 3 Bank officials withdrawn

Three Bank officials of Union Bank’s Gulshan branch have been withdrawn over a deficit of Tk 19 crore in the bank vault.

A probe committee also has been formed in this regard.

In a press conference, Hasan Iqbal, Deputy Managing Director of Union Bank Ltd revealed the matter on Thursday (September 23).

Earlier, a team of Bangladesh Bank unearthed the irregularity after an inspection in the bank’s branch on Monday.

According to central bank sources, an inspection team of Bangladesh Bank went to the branch on Monday and found that the branch should have remained a deposit of Tk 31 crore, but the inspection team found only Tk 12 crore in the vault.  There is a deficit of Tk 19 crore in the vault and the branch officials could not give any clear answer to the team about it.

Bangladesh Bank Executive Director and Spokesperson Md Serajul Islam said a team found a discrepancy in monetary amount in the branch’s vault. The central bank will take a legal action against it, he added.
