PCR complexities to be resolved in a day or two

CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshall Muhammad Mafidur Rahman

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice Marshall Muhammad Mafidur Rahman has expressed hope that the RT-PCR issue created over entering for Bangladesh expats in the UAE would be resolved within a day or two.

He made the remarks in replying to a query at a ceremony marking the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the conference room of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism at the Secretariat on Tuesday (September 28).

Mafidur Rahman said, “We are trying our best. Our only goal is to get the workers to that country quickly. They also have requirements. Dubai Expo has started, they need a lot of people. But our work in the bureaucratic process is getting late. Hopefully, it will be resolved by today and tomorrow.”

He said, “Sample collection booths have been set up at the airport recently by setting up an RT-PCR lab. Complications are growing due to non-approval from the UAE. The UAE has accepted one of the six labs. Bangladesh wants approval for all six labs. To this end, all the concerned ministries are working together. Passengers will not be sent unless all labs are approved. They are checking and sorting, they will be assured of approval at the end of the formalities.”

The UAE government had a condition, he said, adding that, “The companies selected by the Department of Health should be informed of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Then they will approve. This information was given by our ambassador to UAE through a letter. We also sent a letter two weeks ago. We are going to persecute. The installation of our lab has already been completed the day before yesterday.”
