“Action to be taken if price of onion goes up illegally”

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said that the country has adequate onion stocks, there is no reason to panic. Action to be taken if the onion price of onion goes up illegally.

The minister said this while addressing a press briefing virtually after a meeting at the conference room of the commerce ministry on Monday (October 11).

He also said that onion stocks and supply are normal here. There are about 5 lakh metric tons of local onion in stock now. Onion imports from India and Myanmar are going on. Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has continued onion sell at Tk30 per kilogram. New onions of the summer season will hit the market in the next one month.

The government has taken all measures to keep the supply, stock and price of onions normal, he added.

Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh presided over the program where Chairperson of Bangladesh Competition Commission Md Mofizul Islam, TCB Chairman Brigadier General Ariful Hasan and others attended.
