Several buses torched after SSC candidate run over at Rampura

An agitated mob set fire to several buses at Rampura in the capital after a bus of Anabil Paribahan ran over a candidate of the ongoing secondary school certificate (SSC) exams on Monday (November 29) night.

The deceased was identified as Md Mainuddin Islam (19), of Mollabari area in East Rampura. He was a student of Rampura Ekramunnessa High School.

“A bus of Anabil Paribahan hit Mainuddin around 10:45pm when he was crossing the Rampura DIT Road. He was returning home from his friend’s house,” according to eyewitnesses.

Confirming the matter, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rampura Police Station Rafiqul Islam said the bus and its driver were detained.

After being informed about the death of the school student, locals went to the spot and set fire to several local buses after vandalizing them, he said.
