Ex-DIG prisons Partha Gopal jailed for 8 yrs

A Dhaka court has sentenced Partha Gopal Banik, a suspended deputy inspector general (DIG) of prisons of Sylhet division, to eight years in jail in a case filed over on bribery and money laundering charges.
Judge Shaikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-4 delivered the verdict on Sunday (January 9).
Earlier, a total of 11 witnesses were testified before the court in the case.
The judge framed charges against Partha in the case on November 4 last year.
Earlier, Partha was arrested by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on July 28, 2019, on charges of irregularities and corruption, after Tk80 lakh was recovered during a raid at his residence in the capital.
According to ACC, the money was earned through bribery, corruption, and irregularities.
