‘Serial killer’ Helal Hossain alias Selim used to roam killing people.
Khandaker Al Moin, RAB’s legal and media wing commander, disclosed this at a press briefing in the city’s Karwanbzar on Thursday.
Earlier on Wednesday night, a team of RAB arrested Helal Hossain alias Selim from Bhairab in Kishoreganj. He was absconding for years under the guise of a baul (folk singer).
Selim was sentenced to life term in a murder case in North Bengal. He was also accused in several murder cases.
Khandaker Al Moin said in the guise of a Baul, he used to live in different shrines and railway stations to avoid arrest.
His strategy was going well and he managed to dodge law enforcers for years. He even started earning through singing baul songs and got married. But his appearance as a baul in the song "Bhanga tori chhera paal" five years ago, led to him being identified and eventually, getting arrested, the RAB official said.
RAB started investigation after a man informed six months ago that that baul in the music video looks like the fugitive killer of Mahmudul Hasan Bidyut (in 2001), he told the press conference.
