Voting underway in NCC, Tangail-7 and 5 municipalities

Elections in Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC), by-polls in Tangail-7 constituency and elections in five municipalities have begun this morning.

The voting started at 8 am and it will continue till 4 pm without any break.

The five municipalities include Banshkhali, Noakhali, Jhikargachha, Bagatipara and Natore.

Election Commission (EC) Joint Secretary and Director (Public Relations) SM Asaduzzaman said all preparations have been taken to hold the elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

In Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) polls, it is said that main contest will be held between Awami League candidate Dr Selina Hayat Ivy’s Boat symbol and independent candidate Taimur Alam Khandaker’s Elephant symbol.

The polls are being held through Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). So, 2 thousand 912 EVM machines have been sent to Narayanganj, on the outskirts of the capital.

Fourteen judicial magistrates have been appointed to conduct election peacefully. Under the Penal Code, they will be able to carry out brief trials with filing case.

Around 5 lakh 17 thousand 361 voters will exercise their voting rights at 1333 polling booths in 192 centers of 26 wards.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has allowed 42 observers from 9 organizations to monitor the election.
