Journalist killed in Hatirjheel bike accident

Habibur Rahman, a senior reporter of daily Shomoyer Alo, has been killed in a motorcycle accident in Dhaka’s Hatirjheel area early Wednesday (January 19).

The incident occurred at the capital’s Begunbari area of Hatirjheel around 2:30am.

Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, said Habibur was critically injured after his motorcycle hit a footpath near Begunbari area around 2:30am.

Mehedi Hasan, a passer-by, found Habibur lying on the road and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, he said.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the motorcycle.

The body was kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy, Bachchu Mia added.

Habibur was a former organising secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).
