Covid-19: Infection rises by 180%, death 88% in a week

Patients contracting coronavirus have been increasing every day due to Omicron, the mostly contagious variant of the virus. For this, infection and death rate is also on the rise.

According to the Directorate General and Health Services (DGHS), the number of new patients has increased by 180 percent and the death rate has increased by 88 percent in the last one week.

DGHS said, some 67,425 new patients have been identified in a week (January 17 to January 23). In the previous week (January 10 to January 16), 24,011 cases were detected, meaning the patients have increased by 180.8 percent that of the last week.

On the other hand, some 79 people died of coronavirus in the last week while 42 in the previous week, meaning the death increased by 88 percent.
