James, Miles withdraw 2 cases against Banglalink

Singer James and rock band Miles have withdrawn the two separate cases filed against private mobile phone operator Banglalink for using their music without permission.

James and the band’s vocalist Hamin Ahmed filed a petition, seeking the withdrawal of the lawsuits in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Qayes on Thursday (May 26). The cases were withdrawn through a ‘compromise’.

Banglalink CEO Erik Aas, Chief Compliance Officer M Nurul Alam, Chief Corporate Regulatory Officer Taimur Rahman and VAS Chief Anik Dhar were present in the court.

During the hearing today, Manam Ahmed from Miles Band told the court that the cases were filed following a misunderstanding and now we are not willing to run the cases.

Earlier on November 10 last year, Faruq Mahfuz Anam alias Nagarbaul James and Hamin Ahmed and Manam Ahmed of the band Miles filed the two cases against Banglalink under the Copyright Act.

The court then accepted the case and issued a summons and directed five officials of Banglalink to appear before the court on November 30.

The case against Banglalink alleges that the mobile operator used James’s six songs without permission. Besides, the band Miles accused the mobile operator of using their two songs without permission.
