Mostly talks were opposite of EVM

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has said that there has been a lot of talks about electronic voting machines (EVMs) during the dialogue holding with 10 political parties.

The talks started at Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital on Tuesday (June 28).

CEC said in his welcome speech, “A lot of talks over EVMs have been made on newspapers some days after we took charge of EC. There have been more opposite talks than positive. We had no such idea about EVM from the beginning. We did not even have personal idea. We have already done a lot of work with EVM. Now we have something of idea.

“We had two dialogues before. But many said in favor of EVM. Many also came up with the solution and said it is better to purchase EVM with more advanced technology. Again many directly said they would not go to the polls with EVM. We have already decided that we will take a decision after discussing with the political parties. We have to decide which way to go,” he said.
Kazi Habibul Awal said, “Some of big parties joined the dialogue today. A minister himself came which I did even not expect. Thank you very much for coming. Our discussion today will be limited to EVMs. You can say for or against EVM. We will listen to your words. We will listen to your discussions and come to an objective conclusion later.”
