Jitu beat teacher to show heroism: RAB

Ashraful Islam Jitu, the key accused in the murder of Utpal Kumar Sarker, a teacher of Hazi Yunus Ali School and College at Ashulia, has confessed that he beat the teacher with a cricket stump to show heroism.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of the Legal and Media Wing of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), said this at a press briefing at its media center in the city on Thursday.

In a joint drive, two teams of RAB arrested Ashraful Islam Jitu from Sreepur in Gazipur on Wednesday night. Jitu used to study in class-X of that educational institution. He was admitted first to a school, then to a madrasa and lastly to the school. He was known to everyone in the school as a naughty student. There were many allegations against him for violating discipline and destroying the school environment at different times. He used to tease and annoy the students. He used to smoke in front of everyone on the school premises. He formed a juvenile gang in the area under his leadership, he said.

A few days before the incident, the teacher forbade Jitu to refrain from roaming closely with a girl on the campus.  After that, he became angry with his teacher and planned to attack him to show his heroism to the girl.

On June 25, he attacked lecturer of the Humanities Department Utpal Kumar Sarker with a cricket stump on the college campus. The teacher was admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital where he died on June 27.

Later, the deceased's elder brother Asim Kumar Sarker filed a murder case with Ashulia Thana.

According to his certificate, he is 19 years old, Khandaker Al Moin said.
