Diplomats pay tribute to Holey Artisan attack victims

Diplomats on Friday paid tributes to the lives lost in the militant attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in the capital’s Gulshan six years ago.

Ambassadors of different countries to Bangladesh placed wreaths at a temporary altar before the bakery building in the morning to pay their tribute to the victims of the militant attack, marking the sixth anniversary of the attack.

Japanese Ambassador Ito Naoki, Italian Ambassador Enrico Nunziata, US Ambassador Peter D Haas and Indian High Commissioner Vikram K Doraiswami paid their respects and placed wreaths.

Doraiswami said, “We remember the victims. We have to fight such crimes together so that tragedies like this do not happen in future.”

“Seven of our citizens died in the incident six years ago, all were working in Dhaka Metro Line-1 project. We will never forget them”, said Ito Naoki.
Today (July 1) is the sixth anniversary of the attack on Holey Artisan Bakery in the capital’s Gulshan.

On July 1, 2016, five militants stormed Holey Artisan bakery in the capital`s Gulshan, the diplomatic zone, and held diners hostage at gunpoint.
At least 22 people including 17 foreigners were killed in the attack.On November 27, 2019, a Dhaka court delivered the verdict in the case, sentencing seven Neo-JMB militants, including the mastermind of the attack, to death.
