Tea workers’ strike continues

Tea workers have continued their indefinite strike, demanding an increase in their daily wages as their demand was not met yet.

Programmes like human chain, protest meetings and processions have continued inside the gardens.

No result came out at a tripartite meeting held in Dhaka on Wednesday. The meeting was held between the protesting workers’ leaders, garden owners and Labour Division to end the strike.  Labour Department Director General Khaled Mamun Chowdhury and labour leaders were present at the meeting.

Nripen Pal, acting general secretary of the Bangladesh Tea Workers Union, said owners have agreed to give Tk 140 per day but we demand Tk 300. The movement will continue until their demand is met.

The workers of 167 tea gardens across the country, including 92 of Moulvibazar, continued their strike from last week, demanding an increase in their daily wages to Tk 300 from Tk 120.
