Advisor to the Prime Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury has said that the government is experimenting the feasibility and reaility of importing fuel oil not only from Russia but also from other sources.

He said this in reply to queries during a press briefing at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Wednesday (31 August).

Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury sadi, “US Under Secretary Jose W Fernandez said that there are no sanctions on importing fuel oil, fertilizers and medicine. So, we can assume that there is no problem in importing oil from Russia or other countries. The government is experimenting the matter.”

Expressing fear that the price of coal will increase in the next year and due to the oil crisis, he said, “Our two or three projects of coal will come this year and next year. These will actually reduce the pressure on our electricity. We can approximately keep our economy going.”

He said it may take at least two months for the electricity situation to return to normal. But by the end of September the situation will start normalising.
