High Commissioner looks in Bangladeshis confined in Maldives prison

Bangladesh High Commission has looked in 70 Bangladeshi prisoners in the central prison of Maldives. High Commission delegation led by Bangladesh High Commissioner to Maldives S M Abul Kalam Azad visited the country’s Maafushi Jail on September 15 (Thursday).

The Maldives High Commission revealed the information on Saturday (September 17).

There are 70 Bangladeshis in Maafushi Jail and 20-25 in Male Prison. They are arrested or convicted in cases of murder, child abuse, drug use, fights etc.

High Commissioner looked in Bangladeshis in Maafushi Jail and inquired about their various difficulties and facilities (medical, food, clothing, prison environment etc.). Later the issues were discussed with the prison authorities. The authorities are requested to provide the various benefits due to the prisoners in a timely manner.

At this time, the first secretary of the High Commission Sohail Parvez and Welfare Assistant Al Mamun Pathan were present.

Earlier, on January 28 and March 21 of this year, the Bangladesh High Commission gave clothes to expatriate Bangladeshis in Maafushi Jail in Maldives and inquired about them.
