Metro rail to be launched in last week of December

The much-anticipated metro rail service [Uttara-Agargaon] will be launched in the capital in the last week of December this year.

Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) MAN Siddique made the disclosure during a press briefing at a hotel in Dhaka on Wednesday (November 23).

He was attending an agreement signing ceremony between Japan’s Tokyu Construction and local Max Infrastructure to develop the depot area for MRT-1 – the country’s first-ever underground metro rail.

The DMTCL MD said, “We have sent a letter to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to finalise the inauguration date. We hope the Prime Minister will inaugurate the country’s first metro rail in the last week of December. We are yet to receive any confirmation.”
