ASP Anis murder: Chargesheet against 15 submitted

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has submitted chargesheet to the court against 15 people including the registrar of the state-run National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital (NIMH) Dr Abdullah Al Mamun in a case filed over the murder of Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anisul Karim Shipon.

PBI Inspector (Unarmed) AKM Nasir Ullah, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the chargesheet on Wednesday (November 30).

A source associated with the court concerned confirmed the information on Thursday (December 1).

The charge-sheeted accused are Mind Aid Hospital Director Arif Mahamud, Pharmacist Tanveer Hasan, Officers Sakhawat Hossain, Sajjad Amin and Fatema Khatun, Hospital Coordinator Redwan Sabbir, Employees Masud Khan, Jobair Hossain, Tanif Mollah, Sajib Chowdhury, Asim Kumar Pal, Liton Ahmed, Saiful Islam and Abdullah Al Mamun.

Anisul had been suffering from mental illness and was brought to Dhaka’s Mind Aid Hospital for treatment around 11:45am on November 9 in 2020.

The accused forcibly took the victim to the observation room of the hospital and beat him repeatedly.

The hospital staff then informed Anisul’s family that he had fainted.

And when the police officer’s relatives took him to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, he was declared dead.

Anisul’s father filed a case with Adabor police station against 15 people the following day.

After the investigation launched into the murder, the investigation officer of the case and inspector of Adabar police station Farooq Molla filed a charge sheet against 15 people including National Institute of Mental Health Registrar Abdullah Al Mamun on March 8, 2022.

Anisul’s father Faizuddin Ahmed applied for re-investigation into the murder case as Dr. Nusrat was not named in the charge sheet. Later, the court allowed it and directed PBI to investigate the murder case again.

Anisul Karim Shipon was a 31st BCS officer and former student (33rd batch) of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Jahangirnagar University.
