Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on organising any assembly, rally and mass gathering in the capital without prior permission. Otherwise, legal actions would be taken against the concerned people.
A press release signed by DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam revealed the news on Wednesday (December 2) afternoon.
“Nowadays, it has been noticed that various socio-political and religious organisations are announcing programmes like assembly, rallies and public gatherings in Dhaka without the permission of the appropriate authorities. Traffic is being disrupted due to various obstacles created on roads because of their programmes. The existing law, including the freedom of assembly of any legitimate party or group, has peacefully kept the interests of the general public intact subject to reasonable restrictions imposed by the law of discipline or public interest in accordance with the Constitution of Bangladesh. But even then, many people are holding various rallies without heeding such prohibitions of the law,” the press release reads.
