Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) mayor Jahangir Alam has been suspended.
Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Tajul Islam made the announcement while addressing a press briefing on Thursday (November 25).
Earlier in the day, the government formed a three-member panel for the city corporation.
On November 19, Mohammad Jahangir Alam was expelled from the party for his controversial comments on Bangabandhu and Liberation War martyrs.
After his controversial speech, the leaders and workers of the local Awami League and allied organizations became enrazed. They staged a massive protest, including the burning of the mayor's effigy.
