Jamaat regains registration along with Daripalla symbol

The Election Commission has reinstated Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s party political registration along with its historical electoral symbol Daripalla (balance scale).

A circular was issued on Tuesday afternoon in a letter signed by the EC's Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

Earlier, on 1 August 2013, the Islamic party’s registration was cancelled as its organisational framework was ‘in conflict with the Constitution’.

Later, on 12 December 2016, the Supreme Court (SC) declared the party’s election symbol, scales, as illegal saying the symbol can only be reserved as an SC monogram.
