Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said legal action will be taken against the authorities of social media (Facebook, Twitter) if they disseminate anti-state and provocative information.
He said this while unveiling the cover of a book titled ‘Sheikh Hasina o Ghure Daranor Bangladesh’ at his secretariat office on Thursday (August 6).
“If any anti-state and provocative information are disseminated in print and electronic media (newspapers and televisions), the liability falls on the authorities of those media. Following the same way, the liability will fall on the authorities of the social media (Facebook, Twitter) if they disseminate any anti-state and provocative information,” Mahmud said.
“Various countries including Europe, America and Singapore have taken action against social media for doing such activities. We have an opportunity to take legal action under section 38 of the Digital Security Act 2018,” he added.
