Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader has said there is no need for intermediate excuses in name of midterm election.
The Road Transport and Bridges Minister said this while speaking at a discussion on Saturday (October 17) noon.
He attended the programme organized by Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd on 100th birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from his official residence through video conference.
Rejecting demand of midterm election of the opposition to check out the government’s popularity, Obaidul Quader said, “A quarter is talking about midterm election. If you want a change of government, wait until the next election. If people want, we will come again, and if they don’t want, we will move away.”
He said, “The Awami League wants to win the hearts of people, not through conspiracy but through development of the country. So there is no need for any intermediate excuses in name of midterm election. No need to create any intermediate issues. Election will be held when the time comes, then people of the country will decide who will be the next government.”
