Mystery behind Mushtaq death to be uncovered in probe: Quader

Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader has said that the death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in jail is very unfortunate. A probe body has already been formed in this connection. The mystery behind his death would be uncovered in the investigation.

The Road Transport and Bridges Minister was speaking at the inaugural function of Service Week organized by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) on Sunday (February 28). The minister joined the programme via video conference from his official residence.

Obaidul Quader said the government is trying to prevent misapplication of the law as the digital security is important for digital Bangladesh.

“The government believes in freedom of expression, freedom does not mean that there will be an absolute or exclusive right to say whatever someone wants,” the minister said.

Noting that respecting the views of others is also under free expression, Awami League general secretary said, “The government is very careful about the use of this law. It is important that no person or organization abuses this law.”

The bridges minister said, “The matter of Mushtaq Ahmed’s death is under investigation. An insidious group is trying to catch fish in spoiled water over the matter.”
