Khaleda Zia’s family applies to govt for her treatment abroad

Family of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment at the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of the capital’s Evercare Hospital, has applied to the government seeking permission to send her abroad for better treatment.

Shamim Iskandar, younger brother of Khaleda Zia, met Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at his Dhanmondi residence and handed an application to him on Wednesday (May 5) night.

In response to the application, the home minister told risingbd that: “The government will consider positively the application seeking permission to send Khaleda Zia abroad for her better treatment if it is urgent.”

The application would be sent to the Law Ministry at the earliest, he added.

Khaleda Zia tested positive for Covid-19 twice in a month – on April 10 and April 24. Her blood report and CT scan results were normal.

She was moved to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at Evercare Hospital on Monday after complaining of breathing and other complications.
