NCC polls: Ivy confident of victory

Narayanganj city corporation election is scheduled to start on Sunday (January 16). Centering the polls, a tension is prevailing across the Narayanganj city areas.

Although, seven candidates are contesting the polls but Selina Hayat Ivy, the ruling party mayoral candidate and BNP-backed aspirant Taimur Alam Khandakar are in limelight.

Selina Hayat Ivy's own image, indomitable courage, her father Ali Ahmed Chunkar's glorious political chapter, tough stance against terrorism, urban development, and above all the boat symbol have put her ahead of the rival candidate.

While visiting the area, this reporter talked with locals in Narayanganj. Meanwhile, the dwellers of Narayanganj opined that Ivy made a strong foundation in the minds of people taking a strict position against terrorism in the last 15 years.

Salim Uddin, a rickshaw puller of the polling area said, the upcoming election there will be fair. Besides, the position of ‘Boat’ symbol is much better.

Imran Mia, a street food seller in Shaheed Minar said, it is normal that there will be counter allegations in the election. Blaming each other is a part of polls. Hope, the election will be free and fair.

On the contrary, independent candidate Taimur Alam Khandakar is fighting alone. Initially, he started the campaign with his party banner. But, BNP high command released him at the middle of the journey. As a result, a major part of BNP supporters left him. Following these issues, many voters opined that he is in back foot in the electoral race.

Narayanganj City BNP’s former joint general secretary Anisur Rahman said, major parts of BNP there is found silent due to fear of the party’s high command. Whereas, the other part has taken sides of Ivy.
