Biswajit murder: 13 accused are at large

Uzzal Jisan: The murder incident of Biswajit Das will be crossed two years on Tuesday (tomorrow) while the verdict of the case will also pass one year soon but most of the accused in the murder are yet to be traced.
Eight people were sentenced to death and 13 were awarded life-term imprisonment as the verdict of the sensational Biswajit Das killing case was delivered on 18 December, 2013. The court also fined Tk 20, 000 each at that time.
The law enforcement agencies have arrested only eight of the accused while it is alleged that thirteen accused are still at large and moving in the day light.
The police sources, however, said that they had tried their best to arrest the killers.
On the other hand, the witnesses of Biswajit murder case alleged that they were in danger as the killers in the case were not arrested till now.
The fugitives are identified as- Rajon Talukdar, Nure Alam Limon, Khandakar Younus Ali, Tareque Bin Johor Tomal, Alauddin, Obaidul Quader, Imran Hossen, Azizur Rahman, Al-Amin Sheikh, Rafiqul Islam, Monirul Haque, Quamrul Hasan and Mossaref Hossen.
Before delivering the verdict, a total of 33 witnesses were testified in the trial of the killing of tailoring shop employee Biswajit Das who was chopped to death by the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) near the Bahadur Shah Park in the old city during the opposition’s countrywide road blockade program on December 9, 2012.
The trial of the killing of Biswajit began on July 14 in the tribunal with the deposition of sub-inspector of Sutrapur Police Station Mohammad Jalal Uddin, also the complainant in the case.
Dhaka’s Metropolitan Magistrate Zahurul Haque framed the charges against 21 activists of Jagannath University unit of BCL on June 2.
On March 5, Tajul Islam, DB inspector and investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against the 21 accused.
Eight accused are now in custody. They are: Rafiqul Islam Shakil, Mahfuzur Rahman Nahid, Emdadul Haque Emdad, GM Rasheduzzaman Shaon, AHM Kibria, Saiful Islam, Quaiyum Mia and Golam Mostofa.
Of them, Shakil, Nahid, Shaon and Emdad had made confessional statements before the court.
The DB inspector Tajul Islam said in this regard, it is heard that the killers are being lived in foreign countries now and our move is continuing to detain them.
Professor Oahed, the Registrar of the University, however, said, the ten students of the University had been suspended for lifetime from the University in the murder incident after an investigation carried out by authorities and their certificates also were cancelled at the same time.
