Hunger strike on Eid day

Workers and employees of a garment factory observed hunger strike and held rally in Narayanganj city on Eid day, demanding salaries for the last three months and Eid bonus.

More than three hundred workers of Beka Garments and Textile Ltd staged the hunger strike in front of Narayanganj Press Club in Chashara on Tuesday (May 03) noon.

The workers said 800 workers of the factory located in Adamjee Export Processing Zone (EPZ) have not paid for last three months. The owners are making various excuses to pay the dues. They have not been paying salaries to the workers even they gave commitment several times for the last two months. Apart from this, the owners stopped production of the factory on March 15 without any announcement. As a result, 800 workers have become jobless and are living a dehumanized life due to lack of money. So, they had no alternative, but took to the streets on Eid day. The workers demanded immediate payment of all their dues. Otherwise, they warned of strict movement including road blockade.
