Deputy tax commissioner drowns in pond

A deputy tax commissioner in Dhaka has drowned after taking bath in a pond at Chatkhil in Noakhali. The deceased was known as Omar Faruk Masum, 35.

The incident took place at Mollika Dighi under Khilpara union of the upazila on Wednesday (May 04) noon.

Omar Faruk Masum, son of late Fazlur Rahman of Kalikapur village of Khilpara union, joined the government job after qualifying through 31st BCS. He worked as deputy tax commissioner in Dhaka before he died.

According to local sources, Omar Faruk Masum along with his six friends and colleagues went to take bath in the pond. They started swimming and went in middle of the pond. Though his fellows returned to the shore, he drowned under water. Being informed, police and fire service members rushed to the spot and recovered the body of Masum around 6:00 pm.

Md Shahidul Islam, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Noakhali, confirmed the matter.
