Staff Correspondent, DHAKA, Apr 7: Receiving Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) license and fulfilling their financial obligations, Bangladesh Internet Exchange Ltd. (BIEL) is starting Long-Term Evolution (LTE) 4G network in Bangladesh.

The BIEL authority came up with the disclosure in a press release, sent to the media, this afternoon.

“BIEL started LTE trial network in Dhaka using ZTE corporation equipment and plans to continue rolling out in Dhaka and remote areas to fulfill license obligations to support Digital Bangladesh program, which will help implement Electronic Government, mobile banking initiatives and bridge digital divide in Bangladesh,” the press release added.


On April 7, the BIEL had shown its first LTE FDD network trial to Bangladeshi telecom communities and journalists, at a press conference, in the capital’s Westin hotel.  
 
The Chief Executive Officer of BIEL, Igor Grakovich, Chief Technical Officer of BIEL, Md. Mizanur Rahaman and High officials from BTRC & respective ministry were also present, at the aforementioned press conference.
 
BIEL has shown a wide range of user devices from major vendors who are working in BIEL LTE network with connection speed over 100 mbps.

“LTE technology is giving huge opportunities to provide user connections with the speed of more than 150 Mbps which is much higher than any existing wired and wireless connections in Bangladesh,” the press release read.

BIEL is working in Bangladesh since 2007 with ISP license, having one of the first and biggest large-scale deployment of a 3.5GHz WiMAX networks.


Currently, it covers major areas of Dhaka including Uttara, Gulshan, Banani, Mohakhali, Dhanmondi, Motijheel & its surrounding areas. It offers wireless Internet connection for business and private customers with a wide range of products & services.

 It can be here mentioned that the BIEL network is one of the first LTE networks in APAC region which is moving Bangladesh to the leading position in telecom development.
