Strict punishment unless wearing mask: Cabinet secretary

Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said, “The government is set to take a tough stance to fight against the possible second wave of coronavirus infections. Maximum fine and severe punishment will be given who will be found without wearing masks.

He told this to the reporters on Monday (November 30) after the regular cabinet meeting.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the virtual meeting from her official residence ‘Gonobhabon’ while other ministers from the cabinet division of the Secretariat.

The cabinet secretary said, “‘The government is going to stricter for ensuring mask use for everyone to tackle the second wave of coronavirus. The field administration has already been instructed in this regard. We have already said that we will be in a stronger position from this week.”

He said, “I think positive results are being found outside Dhaka. DCs say people in the district headquarters are being fairly cautious. Apparently, people in Dhaka city have not been fully alert yet. However, there is a message that the fine will be Tk 500. The maximum fine will be imposed from now on. Instruction was given for maximum fine. Then they will have to be sent to jail.”

“We will observe the situation for more 7 to 10 days. Then, strict action will be ensured,” he added.
