Banks crowded, administration on alert

A week-long strict lockdown is underway across the country from July 1 in a bid to prevent alarming rise of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The first four days of the lockdown were seen almost empty and quiet streets.

On Monday, the strict lockdown to tackle transmission of coronavirus entered the fifth day. Banks and stock markets have remained open, maintaining hygiene rules.

As a result, many people were seen who were going to offices and their working places. Many bank customers were also seen in Motijheel area. Buses were not seen, but private cars, staff buses, few goods-laden vehicles and rickshaws were seen in the streets.

Meanwhile, members of the law enforcing agencies are controlling the movement of vehicles and people by setting up check posts on the roads. Mobile court activities are going on at various important points. People are being detained and fined for leaving houses unnecessarily and not wearing masks.

A mobile court was conducted in Motijheel area under Dhaka district administration at around 10.00 am. Executive Magistrate of Dhaka district administration Manisa Karmakar conducted the mobile that fined six people.

Sub-inspector Md Rajib of Motijheel Thana “Policemen are active in enforcing the lockdown in Motijheel area from this morning as per the government instructions. Mobile court activities are being conducted in Motijheel area. The situation has become normal from the morning. However, presence of people has increased as banks and stock markets have opened”.
